The Resistance

It’s keeping you from the important work you were made for.

Last time, I introduced the idea of “the resistance” that comes from Steven Pressfield’s great book “The War of Art”. I highly recommend it.

Seth Godin calls the resistance “the Lizard Brain”. I like that. I feel like my brain recedes in fear, like a skittering lizard, when I’m going to create. Even more when I’m going to send my work out. Anytime I put something out there, really.

You know the feeling. The one where time stands still as your press send, open your mouth, share your gift, express yourself vulnerably. That feeling.

Seth says it like this, “The resistance is the voice in the back of our head telling us to back off, be careful, go slow, compromise.”

Did you hear something like that today? Yesterday?

Did you obey it or stare it in the face and move through it, on purpose?

What’s the important work you were made to bring to life today? You’ve been endowed with the power to create, dream, hope.

Has something stolen the dream?

Is it the resistance?

It’s still today. What are you waiting for?
